What are tectonic plates

Tectonic plates are large plates of rock that are part of the earth's crust. The huge pieces are like giant pieces of a mixed up puzzle. The plates are huge, thick plates that slowly drift over the globe because the miagration of the plate boundries across the surface of the earth's means that they are not firmly fixed to the underlying concivictive motions of the mantle.
